The wood for the flat cut up and ready to be loaded

Cutting the wood

This exercise can be very dangerous. I do not do this myself but arrange for two wood-cutters to come periodically. They came this week and attacked some of the dead trees, cutting them into pieces for the combustion heater in the Flat and some for my cooking stove as well as my heating stove.

So when you come to stay, if the weather is cold, you will be well catered for in the warm and cosy department!

It was an interesting event this time as the dead trees were difficult to reach. We had to get the tractor with a chain to pull them into an easily accessible place for the chain saws to do their bit. Then we took in the one-ton truck to pick up the wood and promptly bogged it! Glad we had the tractor there to pull it out.

So you can see that life on a farm is not always simple and straight forward. One always has to take into consideration that many unexpected things can occur to drag out a job, to make it tedious and to create hazards. A good motto is to plan well and always be prepared.

Now we are in Summer but it feels more like Autumn with its morning mists and degrees of coolness.  It is still raining intermittently and everything is growing at a great pace.
